Malta announces highly anticipated crypto laws in effect Nov 1

The Maltese Government has published the long-awaited legal notices establishing the 1st November 2018 as the date on which the Virtual Financial Assets (VFA) Act and the Innovative Technology Arrangements (ITAS) Act will come into force.

These acts represent two out of the three legislative acts which govern Malta’s cryptocurrency and blockchain framework. The third act of parliament, which is still subject to a legal notice to bring it into force, is the Malta Digital Innovation Authority (MDIA) Act.

The EU member state is pulling ahead in fomenting a legal cryptocurrency ecosystem, and is starting to become known as “Blockchain Island”.
