The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) scored a big win last week with the announcement of capital and margin rules for security-based swap dealers and major security-based swap market participants. This has been years in the making and is one of the big areas of incomplete Dodd-Frank regulation. With these rules safely completed, there is a logical direction for where the SEC will get down to business next.
