A beneficial owner asks: “As smart bucketing usage increases, what options are agents considering to manage the assets of those who will be disadvantaged by that selection criteria?”

At the Finadium Investors in Securities Lending 2024 conference on May 9 in NYC, an audience question came in on smart bucketing. As borrowers look to separate assets into higher and lower RWA categories to protect their balance sheets, can agent lender clients with “worse” RWAs do anything to safeguard their interests? Smart bucketing practices are increasing; the better prepared that agents and their clients are to respond, the better they can protect the strength of their lending programs.
