We’ve come across older research to remind us that while central counterparties (CCPs) are important and provide consistent risk management to the market, they are also no failsafe. CCPs can experience their own stress in sovereign markets and may be seen as potentially disruptive by the very markets they serve. These lessons should be known by regulators who point to CCPs as the solution to all problems.
