ISLA & Linklaters Publish a Joint Paper on Digitalisation & the Securities Lending Market

The International Securities Lending Association (ISLA) is delighted to announce the publication of a new white paper titled The Future of the Securities Lending Market | An Agenda for Change.

Produced in collaboration with Linklaters, this paper looks at the increasing complexities surrounding the securities lending market in terms of operational flows and systems, as well as pervasive and onerous regulatory imperatives.  Drawing upon the experience of other markets, it considers how technological change in the form of digitalisation and common data representations may provide the opportunity and framework to standardise and streamline many inefficient and costly legacy processes and practices. The ultimate vision is a market which is scalable and future-proof, so that it can be adapted as the environment (whether legal, regulatory or practical) changes over time.

Andrew Dyson, CEO commented, “This aspirational agenda for change highlights how our markets have to embrace the momentum created by regulatory imperatives such as SFTR to define the future direction of the industry. This white paper sets out a clear and deliverable framework for that change which ISLA will be working on across the industry over the coming months.”

Richard Hay, UK Head of Fintech, Linklaters added, “We are delighted to work with ISLA and its members in the implementation of their vision for the future of the securities lending markets. As we see our clients turn increasingly to innovative technological solutions across the financial markets, this agenda for change provides the securities lending market with a clear roadmap to set the foundations for its future success.”
