ICMA members elect new board at Brussels annual meeting

The International Capital Market Association (ICMA) announced that members have elected new board members at the ICMA annual general meeting in Brussels.

The following were elected to the Board:

  • Adam Bothamley, global head of Debt Capital Markets at HSBC Bank PLC, London
  • Charlotte Conlan, vice chair for Global Leveraged Finance at BNP Paribas, London
  • Fabianna Del Canto, co-head of EMEA Capital Markets at MUFG Securities EMEA plc, London
  • Carey Evans, managing director and co-head of EMEA Government Affairs & Public Policy at BlackRock (Netherlands) B.V., Brussels Branch, Brussels
  • Jérôme Jean Haegeli, Group chief economist at Swiss Re Management Ltd, Zurich
  • Marc Lewell, head of International Syndicate at J.P. Morgan Securities plc, London
  • Stéphane Malrait, managing director and global head of Market Structure & Innovation for Financial Markets at ING Bank, London

Broadridge expands European sales team for Investor Insights and ESG Solutions

Broadridge Financial Solutions announced its hired Simona Vitali, ex Europe CEO of Morrow Sodali to lead sales efforts for its new suite of international solutions for issuers.

“Simona’s 20-year proven track record in corporate governance focused on strengthening the relationships between institutional investors and listed companies will be invaluable,” said Maria Siano, general manager for International Issuer Services and head of Strategy for EMEA and APAC at Broadridge, in a statement. “Recruiting a team of sales executives throughout Europe, Simona will play an important role in expanding Broadridge’s Investor Communication Solutions suite.”

Vitali’s appointment follows the recent launch of Broadridge Investor Insights, a smart analytics dashboard which provides actionable insights, enabling issuers to identify key investor profiles and predict voting behaviour. Issuers can make informed decisions and effectively engage with their target audience. The AI-powered platform is part of an expanded suite of solutions for issuers, including powerful ESG tools that provide consensus view of ESG ratings, benchmarking and advisory services to optimise ESG strategies.

Vitali said in a statement: “At a time when companies are prioritizing simplicity and effectiveness, I am excited to be joining the Broadridge team dedicated to delivering client-centric solutions that help issuers adapt to an evolving landscape.”

Joining the international issuer business will be Mariana González as sales director for International Issuer Services. González brings over fifteen years of experience working with a wide range of corporates, including within the corporate banking team of Royal Bank Scotland and multiple financing roles at IKB Deutsche Industriebank AG. Prior to Broadridge, González spent seven years at Morrow Sodali, providing strategic advice to corporate issuers on ESG topics under the stakeholder expectation prism.

US SEC announces new policy director as Slavkin leaves role

The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) announced that Policy director Heather Slavkin Corzo will leave the agency. Corey Klemmer, most recently the Corporation Finance counsel to chair Gary Gensler, has been appointed Policy director.

“Heather has been one of my most trusted advisers over the last three years. She has provided sound counsel and managed a policy agenda that, together, have bolstered protections for the investing public and enhanced avenues for capital formation by issuers – with achievements ranging from money market fund reform to shortening the settlement cycle to enhancing corporate disclosure about material cyber events,” Gensler said in a statement. “I thank Corey for taking on a new role leading policy work across our regulatory agenda. Corey has developed strong relationships throughout the agency and has a proven ability to shepherd important rulemakings from development to adoption.”

Klemmer joined the SEC in July of 2021. Since then, she has supported the chair in proposing and adopting rules implementing the Holding Foreign Companies Accountable Act and outstanding Dodd-Frank mandates, as well as updating insider trading rules, beneficial ownership disclosures, and the regulation of special purpose acquisition companies. For the last two years, Ms. Klemmer has worked in a project management capacity across the policy agenda. Prior to joining the agency, she served as Director of Engagement for Domini Impact Investments LLC. Previously, she served as an analyst at the AFL-CIO Office of Investment.

ISLA announces incorporation of ISLA Americas and initial Board directors

The International Securities Lending Association (ISLA) announced that following the recent Extraordinary General Meeting where ISLA members voted overwhelmingly in favour of resolutions to support the expansion of its activities in the United States, ISLA Americas, has been successfully incorporated on 10 May 2024. We thank all of our members for their support in helping us achieve this important milestone.

ISLA’s Americas board will be chaired by Mark Whipple, global head of Securities Lending, Invesco. The officers and directors will work with the ISLA Americas’ senior management team to deliver the aims and objectives of the affiliate entity, whilst ensuring alignment with ISLA’s overall strategy.

Along with Whipple, the current list of confirmed directors includes:

SFT industry moves from Marex, Morgan Stanley, MUFG, State Street and Wells Fargo

John Overy has joined Marex Financial as head of EMEA securities finance, reported Securities Finance Times. Reporting to Paolo Tonucci, CEO of Capital Markets, he will be responsible for the implementation and execution of the firm’s international securities financing capabilities, across securities lending, repo and derivatives. Prior to Marex, Overy held a five-year tenure at TD Cowen, where he was managing director of global securities finance.

At Morgan Stanley, Gerard Murphy has departed from his role as co-head of EMEA client financing sales and trading. He held a 15-year tenure with the firm, where he held roles in risk management and secured funding. Prior to joining Morgan Stanley, he was an analyst at Bear Stearns & Co, after joining in 2006. Murphy will be relocating to Ireland to begin his new role, which is as of yet undisclosed.

In addition, Wells Fargo has hired Courtney Campbell as managing director and head of securities lending demand trading. Based in New York, she will report to Eamon McCooey, head of equity finance and FCM, and will be responsible for leading the firm’s securities lending activities with prime brokerage clients. Campbell joins the financial services firm from Digital Prime Technologies, where she was head of lending solutions. Previously, she was managing director of international equity finance at Credit Suisse.

MUFG appointed Emma Burt as director of repo sales for the firm’s rates sales group. Based in London, Burt will help to develop the growth of MUFG EMEA’s securities financing businesses. She will report to David Fell-Clark, head of rates sales for EMEA. Previously, Burt was associate director of repo sales, collateral trading and optimization at Scotiabank Global Banking and Markets.
