The case for recalibrating the Basel treatment of cryptoasset exposures

A group of industry trade associations are lobbying the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision (BCBS) to pause implementation plans and recalibrate its Cryptoasset Exposures Standard (SCO60). The standards place high capital requirements on banks holding crypto assets on balance sheet and on assets traded on public permissionless blockchains. The US administration has also said it will seek to realign the BCBS standards.
