We attended the tokenization and central bank digital currency (CBDC) panels at Citi’s Digital Money Symposium held March 30, 2023 in London. We saw two main themes. First, every big idea has to start somewhere, and it is reasonable to talk these ideas out until you make progress. Second, we’re not sure that some of the people on stage had a full understanding of the securities industry. Crypto, sure, but securities? This diluted the strength of some of the arguments.
