With $7 trillion notional outstanding, the global Total Return Swaps business has done well thanks to preferential Basel III rules and a lack of reporting requirements in some jurisdictions. New US rules are rolling in however, and market participants should ask if TRS growth trends could or should continue going forward. And what happens if TRS fall out of favor?
