CFTC sets up new data division in operational overhaul

The Commodity Futures Trading Commission announced a reorganization that includes the creation of four new operating divisions: data; market participants; legal and administration.

In the data division, Data personnel from various operating units including the Office of Data and Technology and the Division of Market Oversight have been merged into the new Division of Data to centralize the agency’s data functions. Tamara Roust will lead the division as chief data officer.

In a recent interview with WSJ, the CFTC’s former enforcement director, James McDonald, discussed how data mining had boosted enforcement efforts.
