New research on dollar funding shows Japanese banks pay a 3bp premium on repo – what’s going on here?

A recent paper published by the BIS, “Business models and dollar funding of global banks” examined the changes in the types of business that European and Japanese banks did post-crisis (specifically post-Euro funding shock) and the premium that Japanese banks pay to fund themselves in repo. It is a well-done piece of research and worth examining the results.
