Securities finance could solve a proposed ETF in-kind redemption taxation issue

US Senator Ron Wyden has introduced a bill that would prevent investors in ETFs, master limited partnerships and other partnerships from tax benefits following an in-kind property distribution. If enacted, the bill would remove one reason that high net worth investors have preferred ETFs over mutual funds. Securities finance provides an existing solution to this new taxation challenge.
