The basis trade is global – regulators are now talking about risk spillovers

We recently heard from senior Bank for International Settlements (BIS) officials on perceived risk in the non-US basis trade and have seen additional commentary from national overseers. While the US Treasury basis trade is the 800 pound gorilla in the room, basis trades around the world are making some regulators take note on how a sudden unwind could impact their domestic markets.
