Markets in Financial Instruments Directive II and Markets in Financial Instruments Regulation are currently working their way through the process of sovereign rule-making bodies within the EU (and beyond), and are scheduled to enter into effect in 2018. One measure of the far reaching nature of these new regulations is that implementation dates were pushed back a year by the European Parliament – from 2017 to 2018 – to give local authorities and market participants additional time to absorb them.
