Two new BIS papers on collateral – regulators have not yet found the best policy framework

The Bank for International Settlements recently published two new working papers on collateral. The first compares collateral immobility (or velocity) to a previous regulatory era. The second models how a collateral-driven crisis can occur in a collateral shortage. Both are worth a read-through.
